"Knapp's work develops dialectically: each new series of drawings and paintings both revisits transcends the formal and imagistic premises of earlier work. Knapp's ongoing concerns can be expressed in formal and thematic dichotomies whose terms she seeks to reconcile: line and color, flatness and dimensionality, figure and ground, abstraction and representation, tension and calm, conflict and resolution, order and chaos. Her works present new articulations of these oppositions and prospects for synthesis."
